Wax Museum

Attention! Attention!
Your child has started a new biography unit! Students will be reading multiple biographies and ultimately choose one person of interest who they will research in depth. They will write a poem, create a poster and then become their character in a "Wax Museum". We will be having two "Wax Museum" showings. One will be during school hours for students to visit and the second will be Monday June 15, 2009 at 5pm. A notice will be sent home. We hope family and friends can join us the evening of June 15.
Here are the choice the kids have made...

Exotic Fruit

Last week our class read the story Cocoa Ice. This story is about two young girls. One of whom lives in Maine and the other in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Since we didn't know much about Santo Domingo we researched the area and learned a lot about the different fruit trees that grow there. We were lucky enough to be able to try some of those fruits. Enjoy some pictures highlighting our experience.

Spring Time

Check out why the kids love spring so much! They all wrote a few sentences about how spring makes them feel. They also created spring pictures in paint and learned how to upload their picture to their blog!
Happy Spring!

Salt Dough Maps

For the past couple of weeks we have been learning about Alton, NH. Our first step on our discovery of our community we found our homes, school, Mt. Major, Lake Winnipesaukee and assorted other ponds and hills. We located and colored all these locations on a paper map. Our next step was to create a "Salt Dough Map" from water, salt, and flour of Alton. We used toothpicks and paper flags to mark some of the important locations. Feel free to check out the pictures of each student's finished project. They worked very hard!

Snow Sculptures!!

This morning the third grade went out to the fields and got to create their own snow sculptures. Our class decided on a jungle theme and with some serious shoveling help from Mr. Natale the kids had great success! There were a couple snakes, a coconut tree, and even a small monkey! The kids had a great time and were treated to hot chocolate courtesy of Mrs. Kuras when they came in. A big thanks to Mr. Natale, Mrs. Lagace and Mrs. Mellon for all their help!

Space

We have just recently started a new science unit on Space and Technology. Today we worked on space related poems. Keep your eyes open for a student created book containing all the kids poetry. In the meantime enjoy the students poem "Stars and Space" which they wrote as a class!

Stars and Space

The stars are Bright
They glow really bright
I gaze at the stars in the night
Mars has stars that glow in the night
As the sun sets the moon rises and the stars glow
The moon helps me see my shadow at night
You can’t count the stars at night
The stars are like polka dots in the sky
Stars as far as I can see
The moon is my new nightlight
The stars are made from gas
I’m sure the stars are still up there glowing
I wish I could see the moon very soon
Planets are like stars
I bet astronauts are on the moon
The moon at night helps me find my way
The moon is shining like a big star
Then the sun shines as a new day begins.

Martin Luther King. Jr Day

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day our class created collages of themselves. Along with the collages they were asked to write a dream they have for themselves, their family, their community, as well as their world. Come on in and check them out!
